What To Know Regarding Color Run Races And How To Have A Part In Them?

By Else H. Hackett

All across the United States and parts of Canada there are people running in a series of what are called Color run races. As the name suggests, these events add color and fun to people's lives as no other race can. To understand how they accomplish this, we need to know how they are they run, who can run in them, and how long they are.

Participants start out the race in white clothes, but they won't remain that way for long. Right after they begin, they are bombed with a medley of green, yellow, pink, purple, and blue tinted cornstarch balls that tie-dyed color. At the finish line, runners get another blast of color that is sure to take care of any trace of white that might remain in their clothing.

The races generally carry participants through historical and cultural areas of each city, and benefit a local area charity organization. This gives participants the option to assist their community as they improve their health, and legally paint the town all the colors of the rainbow.

Regardless of their age, weight, or whether they will walk or run, anyone can take part in a color run. Registration is generally a simple matter of finding the race website, choosing a city, creating or joining a team, entering standard race form data, and paying the registration fee. Registers may also contribute to the local charity of choice, if they wish.

If a person would like to have a part in the race, but not run in it, another option available to them is being a member of the color bomb squad. Members of the squad are the bomber, rather than the bombed, which gives them a distinct strategic advantage over the friends and family they have that might be participating in the race.

The color run usually begins around nine in the morning, and blasts from the color squad quickly ensue with another bombing every five minutes until the runners reach the 5k run finish line. When they are there, there is an explosion of color as participants grab handfuls of color and tie-dye one another until they get hungry and thirsty. Food, music, drinks, and sponsors are usually located in safe zones out of throwing range.

So, if you are looking for a health conscious and fun way to spend a day, and help a local charity, sign up for a color run. It will be something that you, your family, and friends will treasure for years to come!
